The black bird

Today as I was busying myself at kitchen well beyond lunch time I heard a bird chirping. The sound seemed a lot more closer than usual. I dismissed it because although different I didn't find it abnormal, nor could I think of a possible explanation to what my ears had picked.

I went to my sister who was sitting by the porch working with some clay, which was her very recent fad. I'm not someone who's usually this obsessed with a seemingly silly thing. But I told her about this sound of the bird and how loud it was. My sister heard me out while still engrossed in her work. Then as I went into the living room, I started as I saw a bird, frightened by human presence, flying to save itself from a harmless creature, me. The bird was seeking light as that's the way to outdoors. But it wasn't so smart in its decision to fly right into the kitchen window. My kitchen window had meshes to keep away the mosquitoes and I didn't expect the bird to know it, of course.

It panicked the moment it realized that my sister and I were in the kitchen and flew to the part of kitchen having an exhaust fan as that too let some light in. Apart from all the places it had chosen this was quite convenient too as it was much higher and also much more cozy making the bird feel a lot more safe from us. It was hopelessly stuck for a few minutes and I was curious to see how long it was going to take to figure a way out. To a human mind it was an insignificant problem, something that needs no thinking as the solution was quite apparent.

But the bird was struggling. There was one easy way, the way through which it actually came, a humongous open door. Apparently it had forgotten the path, got lost and much worse, got stuck. After, what seemed like a lot of thought and so many trials it flew through the tiny gap I had left in the back door in kitchen. I had closed it almost fully to guide the bird in the right and easy direction. But it chose what I hadn't. Then, yet again it was a few minutes struggle as it was being deceived by lights passing through meshes. It flew up through all the orb web to the ceiling that showed some light but it didn't work out to it's dismay. By this time, my sister told me she could feel that the bird was clearly in a hysterical state. Then, a flash of realization struck the bird, it saw a tiny ventilation of the bath, but big enough to let the miniature creature in, flew right into it. It was complicated but a clever move. We rushed to the other side of the bathroom, where there opened up another ventilation to outdoors finally. Before I could make it to the other side, the bird had in fact found its freedom. It was a triumphant moment to the bird, I could feel it.

I have to admit, I was extremely impressed with the bird's choice. It chose a not-so-easy way out, nevertheless, it was a bold and heroic thing.

I wonder what was going through it's mind amidst all this adventure. Escaping through that tiny gap might have possibly given it a lot more purpose and the fact that it made it through and saw the first glimpse of the sunny blue sky, should have been a moment of ecstasy for this creature, possibly.

No creature on Earth or beyond is free from facing obstacles or setbacks, or getting stuck where you feel totally lost. But more often there is always a way out, I mean several. I think that's what draws you closer towards your purpose in life. And each time you make it despite the struggles and failures, even when you think it's impossible to see the light towards the end of the tunnel, it brings a lot more happiness and peace from within.

Have you learnt anything interesting from a trivial instance in your life??
